Most won't ever really be aware of why I took a short break from things. That's fine, I never expect them to know. It was a personal matter and all that.
But, that aside, I'm slowly starting to come back. The first step was to mend a fence, and do a little more writing than I had been in the past few weeks. My second step was to open up a new room, of which I'm rather happy with.
EVE: Trials is based on the online game, EVE. It's story takes place during current events within the game, and will chronicle for the most part, the struggles of smaller corporations and individuals just trying to make a life for themselves in space.
One thing of note, though, is that I probably won't be rp'ing with a bunch of people like I used to. For the most part, I'm tired of the politics that people like to make everyone else jump through. I'm tired of the cliques that do nothing but put everyone else down. Most of all, I'm tired of feeling like I don't belong.
That last sentiment is probably due more to my own actions, than anyone else's. In fact, I'm pretty sure of it. But that's how things work out, and I just roll with it. I guess in a lot of ways, I'm finding myself agreeing more and more with Tull's way of thinking in that regard.
Now before anyone sees this as drama-bombing, or a cry of sympathy, stop. I'm not looking for hugs or pats on the back. Just letting thoughts spill out onto virtual paper so they don't sit around in my head and take up space that could be used for more valuable things.
As a small aside, and tie in with Tull, I'll be trying to get in some Firefly rp with him in his room on IB. He's got a good SL that we talked about some the other night, and I actually believe that it could be something rather fun. So any of you Firefly lovers out there that like to RP in the 'verse, hunt him down and ask him about it. You might just find yourself pleasantly surprised. *g* |
|
Due to recent events, I've come to the conclusion to just fade away for awhile. I've asked IB to remove my room there, and will be scarce at best for a long while.
To those I am in storylines with, I apologize for my inconvenient departure. I understand how important it can be to have roles filled in those storylines, and I hope that you can find suitable replacements, or other means to continuing on.
Be well, and thanks for all the fish. |

Anyone who knows me, knows I enjoy writing. Next to gaming, it's probably my grandest passion.
Yesterday when I woke up, I looked at a character I just recently made, haven't played yet, and found myself feeling him. That is nothing new, save for just how strongly I felt him. How strongly his mind and mood swept through me.
Nearly all day long, then, I spent working on his story. It started with a simple idea about the character standing in his library, looking for a particular book. Then all at once, in erupted inside my head, and before long I had the beginnings of an actual novel-esque story pouring into the text editor.
For some reason, the story of the character needs to be told. It's so strong, so necessary, that I find myself unable to call up any of my other characters and feel them as I usually do.
So for anyone I rp with, I apologize in advance if I seem distant, or even hard to reach. But I need to write this story. I need to get the words out while I can.
When I'm finished, or at least to a point near finished, I'll make the text available for those interest.

For anyone that's known me for any length of time, they know I've been playing an online game called EVE. It's your typical mmo in so much as you're online with a bunch of people, killing stuff and leveling up. But what makes EVE unique, is its focus on PvP.
Everything in the game is centralized around player versus player. From ship to ship combat, to the ever fluctuating capitalistic markets, to the way players train their character kills and require clones in order to keep from losing skill points. There are real risks and real rewards to everything.
Nearly since the beginning of my EVE career, I've been with a corporation (guild for those not in the know), called Imperium Technologies. These guys have seen everything in that game. From small mining operations to get battleships for everyone, to large scale fleet warfare alongside fellow alliance members. They are the kind of guys that tell stories about the old days, and newer players listen and hang on every word.
Recently, I got back into it (as I could afford it again), but had to take some time off until I got paid next. I made a comment about another short sabbatical, and within a day, the guys chipped in and got my account reactivated for another sixty days. Granted, I have some loans to repay, but that is the basis of my point.
I've played WoW for a couple years now, and never in all my time in that game, have I met similar people. People who are that willing to put up their own money, just to have me continue hanging out with them. Guys that would let me sleep on their couch if I just showed up at their place one day. The kind of guys (and a handful of girls mind you), that I'm more than willing to call family.
When I can sit around in game for two hours, just staring at my ship inside of the station, gabbing away on voice chat and not care, that's when I know I've found home. Doesn't matter where I am, what's going on, these are my Brothers and Sisters in Arms.Current Mood: satisfied

For anyone who was born in the 80's, there are a few shows which are staples of growing up. But chief among all of those shows and movies and icons, for those of us who are complete and utter geeks, is the original Tron produced by Disney of all studios.
As far as the story goes, it's about a programmer who gets transported into the computer world, and must fight his way through 'games', plot, and various other obstacles in order to defeat the MCP (Master Control Program), before finding his way back into the real world.
But more than that, Tron started the digital revolution. Making people realize that not only were CGI sequences possible, but they could also render convincing imagery that elevated the story beyond the usual model work that was being done at the time.
So for the past decade, we've been hearing the rumbles of rumors that a second Tron was on the way. We got something like a sequel in the smash-hit game, Tron 2.0.
Combining action, puzzle, and rpg elements, Tron 2.0 was a success which let geeks relive their favorite parts of the movie, while also unfolding a new story. Including the voice acting talents of Bruce Boxleitner(Tron), Cindy Morgan(Alan's Wife in the first movie), and Rebecca Romajain, it was a stunning achievement of vision and mechanics.
So tonight, I decided to look up on the rumored Tron 2 movie, only to find that a couple months ago, there had been a trailer shown at Comic-Con. Not just a trailer, but one displaying the amazing light-cycles. And not just light-cycles, but light-cycles with Jeff Bridges(also in the original Tron movie).
I soaked my jeans. The small, poor quality bootleg was enough to get me to cream my pants like I was back in high school again. Watching the new visual effect, and reading that the geniuses in Pixar might also be behind it, was enough to make me lose my load.
This, ladies and gentlemen, will be the next evolution in computer generated imagery. The kind of movie that makes us look at it and actually believe it possible. Not because it's slick and sexy, but because it's done right. If Pixar/Disney has shown us anything, it's that they know how to make movies.
So here's to Tr2n, and salivating for more trailers to come. |
| » Response to Cliff |
This is in response to this post.
While normally I don't much care for the user, I have to admit that whenever a good debate comes along, they usually bring their guns to the table. So, I shall do the same. *s*
---------------
Cliff,
I'll start out by agreeing with a few things. She should have asked permission from site owners that hold a certain sense of animosity between them. It's no secret that most of the sites just don't get along with one another. However, given that she didn't, that's a water under the bridge point. We've crossed that particular pothole and continue onwards.
Secondly, yes, I did tend to suck up to Donna. Love has a way of doing that to people. However, that didn't stop me from getting into fights with her about letting things go, too. Plenty of times her and I butted heads over a particular point, and many times it turned to shouting matches over the phone as we were both too damned stubborn to give in. Just how things worked out.
Third, and probably the most important point to make in agreement, Joey does provide a free service. However, the service she is provided, ie: server, is not free. The bills she pays, day to day, week to week, are not free. The money she makes (arguably this is really her business and none of ours), goes towards living her life. Thus the adverts, the donations, the $25 charge to remove ads from a room, help pay for the server that the users of IB enjoy.
Backtracking a little, I never once kissed up to Martin. I showed him respect, I thought he ran a decent site, but I never sang his praises in so much as the way you describe it. Nor do I fall over myself with admiration whenever Joey comes around. She's a good friend whom I've gotten to know over the past year, and admire many of the things she does. Likewise, I also disagree with a lot of the ways she runs her site, or conducts her business, but that's a moot point when all is said and done. It's her site, and while she may call on the opinions of all room owners and her admins, it's ultimately her decision as to which direction IB takes.
Here's a little point to make. I used to play on your site, too, Cliff. Did I ever kiss your ass?
The legalities issue. That's a fun one, mainly because of the great big grey area surrounding freely offered advertising banners. I imagine if someone wanted to post up the banner of WRC, SD, or WBS(2) on their LJ as a regular post, saying "come here and rp", not a single person would have an issue with it. But as soon as another site owner who the previously mentioned sites dislike, tries to offer a bit of free advertising (free meaning the sites being advertised don't pay for the service), they immediately get their panties in a knot. Yes, Joey is using the removal of banners to fuel the needs of the site's hosting, no it's not $100 nor was it ever.
And the personal attacks? Saying I lack intelligence, that I'm not relevant? Meh, I don't think anyone honestly cares what either of us think. We're a couple of guys on the internet, having out a discussion about site politics, ethics, and legalities. Who really gives a damn about that stuff when there's Porn and WoW? *g*
All the same, ball's in your court. Feel free to use my comments section or just pop it up in your LJ. =)

| » Site Wars: Return of the Drama |
I remember back when I was in middleschool, that my english teacher showed us the movie 'All Quiet on the Western Front'. It was a good movie, but more importantly, demonstrated a very worthwhile lesson. Just because things are quiet, doesn't mean they will remain that way forever.
The site wars, carried on between a ring of RP chat sites based off of the Ethereal Realms chatsite code, are beyond ridiculous for anyone not directly in the line of fire. I admit that I used to be an admin of one of those sites, and I was just as much a part of the wars as anyone else at the time. But I managed to get out, to get free of the anchors that bound me to the constant sniping fests back and forth.
Then, things got quiet. A few back and forth exchanges between owners and such, but nothing that lasted for more than a few days. In the site wars, they were merely brief skirmishes rising up as whispers upon the breeze of good times.
But now, a new stirring of angst is rising. One that I find I have to scratch my head over.
The owner of Infinity Bound, in an attempt to derive additional money to help keep her site running not just for her chatters, but for herself as well, has instituted rotating banners that show up within the various rooms. They're small, unobtrusive for the most part, and not only pull ads from Google, but also rotate banners from the rooms on the site, but other sites as well.
These site banners that are displayed, were not generated by the owner of IB, but are pulled from the sites that they advertise. Furthermore, they also are offered freely by their respective sites for the purpose of advertising.
So imagine a bit of confusion when several of the sites actually get their panties in a bunch over firstly, having their sites being advertised another site which sees decent enough traffic, but they also aren't paying to have their sites advertised.
Seriously! It's free, god damned advertising! Quit bitching about how you weren't asked permission for the advertising site to use freely offered advertising materials! If you don't want people advertising your fucking sites, then take down the freely supplied banners for people to use to advertise them!
I mean really! If Microsoft just up and decided to start advertising my website, without telling me, and weren't charging me anything to do it, and weren't misrepresenting my site in anyway, I'm not going to smack them around and throw a fucking tantrum because I didn't know about it.
*takes a deep breath*
So, in short, quit looking the gift horse in the mouth and pulling its teeth. Be happy that someone is trying to do something good for a change, instead of looking for shadows at every turn.

| » Indifference |
The online political scene is pretty shallow these days. Hell, it's pretty shallow every day.
Most of the time, I try and stick to my own little world of explodey things and role play. But sometimes, in that great long while, something sticks out and really needs to be commented on.
Most notably, a recent post made by the owner of WBS(2). For clarification, I call it WBS(2) because it's a site that made it big by capitalizing on the name of the original, and far more beloved WBS.net from several years ago.
But that's not what this particular entry is about. Actually, it's about an LJ post made by the owner of it. A person whom I have known for many years, and generally tend to just turn a blind eye to because most of his actions are, less than reputable. I won't deny he runs a very successful chat site. However, the methods he employs often times border on nearly illegal, and very definitely immoral.
Even that, though, isn't what I'm a bit upset over. Nope. What I has my goat is his recent post, and, and likewise, a second post he made several days prior.
I'll start with the post from days prior and work my way forward to keep the time line a bit simpler.
About a week ago, another site own (the owner of IB), posted a news item on the front page of IB that expressly informed the users NOT to contact the site staff via instant messengers about site related topics. Requests for help, room of site stuff, things of that nature. She also plainly stated that there was a form for those sorts of necessities that was readily available and quickly responded to by the particular staff member in charge. However, the tone she used for the post was that of a woman at the end of her rope, to which I place no blame. Having been an admin myself on another site, I can whole heartedly agree with her feelings and think what she did was justified.
This, of course, was passed along to the owner of WBS(2), who promptly made a rather crude set of remarks about it in his live journal. Granted, it's his journal, it's his place to put thoughts. However, and this is where the second post of his comes in, it was done so in public, for God and all others to see. Given the animosity between sites and the loyal users, I'm pretty sure that close to a hundred, if not more, saw that post.
"I mean if what I type upsets you so much why are you reading my private LJ."
I think this requires an extreme amount of stressing. If you post something publicly, your LJ no longer is considered private. If those particular thoughts are freely released without any form of protection, locking, or privacy settings, then it is public record so long as it is visible and/or witnessed by the public. Thereby, your private LJ is a misnomer, as you most certainly utilize it for publicly discrediting and belittling everyone else you don't agree with.
Now, I could understand if the posts were written and posted privately to the LJ, with the 'friends only' setting enabled, or even just to yourself. But instead, the posts are often made public, open to anyone to read as they desire.
So, owner of WBS(2), quit standing on the soap-box of privacy, when you very clearly don't give a damn about anyone else's. Quit expecting to be treated like the king of Ardenia with a shiny hat, when you can't be bothered to treat anyone else like decent, human, folk. The more you push against people, the more they push back.
By the way, no, I'm not defending the owner of IB. She can do that all on her own. But I am standing next to a friend, as I'm sure plenty of your own do for you. And no, I'm not fucking her, or cybering her, or getting paid by her, so don't even bother trying to start up those rumors.
(Note: Yep, I am posting this publicly for everyone to read at their leisure. Quote it or dismiss it all you like.)
(Note 2: Edited for spelling. Damnable fingers!)

| » Update in the world of CruzCoda |
So, been awhile since I've actually made any sort of update about myself. And really, things are working out fairly well.
For the past several years, I've been unemployed. It's been a hardship on account that my real talents are usually put aside so that I can try and get any employment at all. But ultimately, it just winds up with me not being hired. I find that the job market today is better suited to individuals who either have no experience with anything at all, or are over fifty and are working for retirement money. (Brash generalization, I know.)
Then one day several weeks ago, a friend of mine in my room on IB started talking to me about the work I had done in my room. The commpanel, images, coding, etc... and before long, we were talking business. Even now, several weeks later, I'm still trying to wake up from this dream. All of a sudden, I've gone from unemployed slacker, to web developer. Granted, it's small-time on my end, working for myself kind of deal and making, by industry standards, peanuts. But that's the fun of it.
I'm really hoping that things not only work out, but also wind up getting to a point where I can start doing this kind of tihng full time so that, perhaps, I might be able to get that game development stuff I've always wanted to do, started for a change.
This also means I'll be getting enough monies to rebuild my old machine, or perhaps even better, get a new and faster machine. Hell, I went and poked around Dell to see what kind of decent machine I could put together, and found out I could get a nice one for about $1700, which is what I pretty much paid for my old one when all was totaled up.
So, in short, life is starting to look up and I may just find myself being pulled out of the rut I've been in. Here's hoping all goes well. =)

Doctor Who ==========
I was born in '81, raised by parents who were both very much alike, and in many ways vastly different. One thing they both agreed on, was how good a show Doctor Who was. Mom's favorite of the doctors being Tom Baker.
So when the new series was released on this side of the big pond, I was thrilled. It was absolutely amazing. Still full of that slightly campy british humor, thrilling adventure, and the deeper look into the life of the Doctor.
But then the second season hit, David Tennant became the new doctor, and something happened. A new sense of life was breathed into the character that hadn't quite been there before. He took this well established, well loved character, and breathed a whole other depth into him.
The Third season was amazing in the sheer range of emotion and morality they played upon, and I believe in many ways, gave Tennant more freedom to express the Doctor as a whole being, rather than just this goofy, time traveling hero that's constantly getting in and back out of trouble.
Now we're getting the fourth season here in the States, and I have to say that I am blown away. Donna(Catherine Tate) brings a very strange form of realism to this idea of traveling through time. That innocent, ignorant naivety mingled with a heart and soul that keeps the Doctor grounded in what he's meant to do, rather than what he feels he should be doing. A conscience for him, rather than just a companion to travel along with him.
Likewise, David Tennant has been expressing so much emotional depth that I find myself nearly weeping at the end of the episodes. The look in his eyes when he recalls Rose, or the raging hate when he sees some form of injustice. But it's his ability to switch between raw emotion and sheer, witty, comical relief that make him an amazing star. Shooting quips at the bad guys when faced with death (as always), then a moment later staggering the small screen with ferocity and sorrow.
I definitely can't wait for the next episode.
============= My Room on IB =============
In other news, my room, Tymidian Saga, has been moved to public status again.
To celebrate the return, I spent the past week working on a new set of graphics for the room. They're far more streamlined in terms of user-interface usage, but also hold a certain, classy feel to them.
I of course stayed with the palette of purples and silver, and added a glass, shiny coat to everything.
Come by and check things out. Maybe even spark up a bit of play. *g*

| » So tired... |
I'm so tired of going to an rp room to try and get some rp, or do some writing, or something along those lines, and finding nothing but chatting.
I'm tired of going to rooms where people are stuck up prissy bitches too absorbed in their own misery to realize that they could feel just a little better about their lives if they set it aside for a few minutes and did something else.
I'm tired of people getting all in a huff because someone doesn't pay attention to them right then and there, meaning that everyone isn't fawning over how terrible they feel.
I'm so tired of everyone regurgitating canon characters from tv shows and movies and video games, because they can't, for a moment, have an original thought about an original character. All they want to do is act out their favorite character sex fantasies with someone else who can write half-assed enough to make it seem like they care.
I'm tired of people coming into a room complaining about how bored they are, and then pissing around for four fucking hours chattering on about how bored and miserable they are, while other people are trying to rp and not get distracted by the whiny little fuckers.
I'm tired of guys who spend their entire day online looking for women to cyber, making lewd and suggestive comments or just outright being incredibly perverse in the open.
I'm tired of being ignored by people who two hours ago thought well enough of me to say hello.
I'm tired of people who get off on trashing everyone else in some lame attempt to make themselves feel better about their own lives.
I'm really fucking tired of people being dicks and asshats because 'it's the internet and I won't meet any of these people, so why should I care'. Or better yet 'I get too stressed out worrying about making everyone else happy, so fuck em!'
And most of all, I hate that the one thing I used to love doing so very, very much, feels more like a chore than a bit of entertainment and artistic creativity. That I'm slogging through shit just to have a little bit of fun and forget, for a few minutes, that there is a normal world out there.

| » Flicker Fixed |
Like the subject says, I fixed the flicker problem.
The flicker problem was when the tiles in a rather long string that interconnected with itself at several points farther down from the main connection, were disconnected. The result would be a flickering of states between connected and disconnected that wound up causing a major issue. In some cases, it would eventually resolve itself and go disconnected. In other cases, it would do the check indefinitely and just strobe (rather prettily I might add).
However, I fixed the flickering by adjusted the routine just a bit. Before, if a tile was connected, it would simply tell all the tiles around it that it was connected. Then, after I'd gone through and done all of that, I did a second run through all the tiles to have them run their connection routine, verifying that they were indeed connected.
That was of course the cause of the flicker problem. So now, after I tell the tiles that they're connected to something, I immediately run their connected routine, then again run through all the tiles and tell them again to run the routine. It works like a champ, even on very long and complex chains.
So, next step is creation of the string assignment. And there in comes the fun part. Yay!
Warning: Geek Speak
I'll probably wind up using an Arraylist within the tile object base class that I simply add and remove tilestring integers to. Since the starting point is the left side of the grid (Column 0), each string will be numbered from 0 to the number of rows (from top to bottom). Then when a string becomes connected, I add what string it is connected to. At least, that's the theory. *g*

| » Game Update #2 |
I DID IT!
Since my last post, the one problem that has been plaguing me so profusely, as been getting the tiles to properly show their connected state, ie: Connected to the starting point, or not. My main problems were getting all the tiles to act disconnect if a portion of the string was turned in such a way that it would break itself from the beginning portion of the string, thus, supposedly making all the others disconnected.
Tonight, after trying an entirely different methodology for handling these events, I finally figured it out. YAY!!!!
Now, the only thing left to clear up, is the slight 'flicker' when the board updates. It's a minor thing though, and probably a lot easier to remedy than connection issues. *grins*
So, next steps:
1) Flicker (maybe) 2) User Interface 3) Game Mechanics (rules) 4) Sound Effects

| » Game Update |
So yesterday and the day before, I put in a 20 hour programming binge. This included finishing up the rest of the tile graphics for the different pipe pieces and their respective animation frames (24 frames per color, for two of the tile types), plus the reticle animation for which piece is being hovered over. Then I started working on migrating the actual animating of the tiles into their base object, in this case it's the object that stores all the frames of animation as textures in an array, their current states, what type of tile they are, and which cardinal direction they can connect to.
Tiles: Each tile can connect in certain directions based upon the tile type. For instance, a four-way tile would be able to connect to the tiles above, below, and to the right and left. Where as a straight pipe would only be able to connection to top and bottom, or left and right.
This of course creates a new problem, storing this information in an easily accessible manner. However, DirectX (I believe it's exclusive to DirectX) has a class called a Vector4. This essentially stores a point in 4-dimensional space following the x,y,z,w coordinate system. Rather useful. So I can thusly store a four point boolean to a tile that I then update when the tile animates, and when I first make the tile.
Game so far: So, after all that time spent programming (and fixing a few bugs when moving code blocks around), what I have so far as a grid of tiles that can be individually clicked, will rotating when clicked (only clockwise), a blinking reticle to hover over the current tile, and the beginning of connection detection for gameplay mechanics. Phew.
Today I hope to get connectioned detection ironed out, and begin work on being able to dynamically size the grid, while also being able to destroy it, and redraw it. So far, so good.

| » I hath conquered! |
So, since I started programming games a few years ago, there has been overall nagging issue that I could never get over. Accurate mouse controls.
DirectX, in fact Managed DirectX (MDX for short), is a set of libraries developed for people to use with the Microsoft .Net framework. For me, that means using VB.Net as I haven't the first clue about Visual C#.
Within the MDX libraries, is one called DirectInput. This manages input devices like the Mouse, Keyboard, and Joystick. For the Keyboard, this is awesome, probably works great for joysticks, too. But when it comes to mice, not so much.
If I were making a first/third person 3D game, then I could fathom using the DirectInput mouse. But for standard, 2D games, it sucks big goat balls!
That said, it's been my biggest hurdle to overcome. As of yesterday, I finally figured out how to capture mouse coordinates relative to my rendering form. And it was right in front of my face the whole time (sort of).
The Windows.Forms object as an override sub routine that handles mouse events, ie: Mouse Move, Mouse Click, Mouse DoubleClick. I can then take that information, and just shove it down into my Game engine class and let it deal with all that information. *grins and dances*
Now, obstacle #2 - The rest of the game!

| » News to Me |
So today was pretty much a normal day. Wake up, check e-mail, work on a commpanel for Mean Streets, rp, more work. Pretty much just the average sort of day for me.
I spent most of it getting the commpanel worked out, put up, and looking rather nice if I do say so myself. It fits, it works for 99% of the users without any major goofs, and just in general fits the room rather nicely.
Of course, not everyone is happy with it. Enter Ebil Kitty.
Now, this is the guy who, back during my Ethereal Realm days, tried to get me banned from nearly every room I ever went into, by spouting lies and spinning tales. This, coupled with the fact that he was also doing it for my ex-girlfriend who I had, at the time, just broken up with. Needless to say, the accusations were pretty hostile; I'd raped her, stolen money, used her for sex. Anyone who has talked to me for longer than a few minutes could guess that I've never been like that.
So, back to today. I get the panel finished, leave the room for a bit to tend to my own, then go back in to Mean Streets to get a screen shot of it for my dad (who loved it, by the way.) Lo' and behold, there is Ebil Kitty, who is wandering 'Who messed up the commpanel'. This of course has me curious as to his questioning, so I tell him that I was the one who did it, whilst wearing my Gideon face.
Needless to say, he was displeased by this and made it rather evident, to which I suggested he take it up with the owners of the room.
Now the fun part, which had me and my friend laughing.
He pm's my friend with the following:
oh darling... Just a friendly warning about Gideon. Do not get friendly with him. He falsely charms many people online to extort money and goods from them. HE has a lifetime ban from many chatsites, WBs and Sanguinem Draconis for such actions, and that is only the least of his crimes.
Ask the owner of WBS why I'm banned. He'll most likely tell you because I came to his site, and told him to leave someone alone or else there would be issues. Or, he might not. But yes, I am banned from WBS and there's no lying about it.
As for SD, I wasn't banned from there. I both left voluntarily, and was asked to not come back do to personal issues between me and Donna. It was amicable, and without incident.
Again he PM'd my friend, with this:
Ask him about being under criminal investigation in real life, the 2 women he's raped and just how much he's stolen from them then if he's such a good friend of yours.
Now seriously, I dare someone to ask me about being under investigation. DARE YOU! RAWR! Because, quite honestly, no one connected with any authorities, have ever contacted me, taken me into custody, or otherwise made it known that I was under suspicion for these things. Most contact I've had with any police officers, was for a fender ding, and being pulled over for taking an unfinished road on my way home.
And lastly, I've only physically had sex with three women. THREE! And as far as I know, all three were consenting to the situation, elsewise they would've said no, and I would've said okay.
All that aside, it's good to know that there's still people out there harboring hate for me. Strange as it is, makes me feel a little nostalgic. *sighs wistfully* Yay!

| » Room Owners |
So, here's the situation. I'm a room owner, on an rp site. The rp site currently doesn't have a post count requirement for keeping a room in public status aside from just having some sign of activity. That's easily accomplished even on the worst of days. A few posts a day, no biggy.
This kind of irks me. Mainly because the person who owns the site does so by their own good graces. It's something they like doing, they enjoy having a place of their own to rp at, and in general there are a lot of good people that hang out on their site.
Now, as a room owner I feel two ways. First of all, it's my room, I'll do whatever the hell I want in it. But on the other hand, there is some responsibility that goes with it. We agreed to maintain our own rooms, to be little communes within the greater community. We agreed to take the reins of ownership and run our little worlds.
The key point is responsibility. Most of us are adults, we have lives outside of the internet (I don't count in this, by the way). I understand that not everyone has the time to spend each and every day making post counts. But that is also part of the agreement we made. To maintain the rooms, to ensure their survival, if you will. Not just so we could look cool and boss people around. Leastwise, that wasn't my personal motivation.
Ultimately, the populace has spoken and they want the easy way out. Personally, I say fuck 'em, put in the post counts and make us room owners actually put forth some effort for the privilege of having a public room on such a site.

| » I hate me some programming |
I swear, every chance the programmers of programming languages get, they find some way to make everything a billion times more difficult.
Take for instance DirectX. It's the set of drivers and virtual devices that allows for a standardized communication platform between operating systems and hardware. Basically, it's a universal translator.
More over, it allows for high-end graphics, audio, and input development most utilized in the gaming industry.
So why, damn it, is it so hard to get the absolute position of the mouse cursor? I mean, honestly, it can't and shouldn't be so damned bloody difficult. Of course, trying to find tutorials on how to go about setting this up are nearly impossible to find in the one programming language I do know; VB.Net.
But I figured "hey, I'm a bright lad, I can just go figure out Visual C#". Oh, how naive I am!
That would ultimately be far, far too easy. Just find myself some nifty tutorials, and begin from there. My attempts have resulted in failure, and I fear I will never grasp that form of witch craft.
So, I'm back to VB.Net, Managed DirectX, and trying to figure out how to get a device we all use and love, to actually give me something I can work with.

| » Great Things |
A lot of people these days watch television. Yes, I know, understatement of the century. It has become a way of life, a staple of civilization. Television defines our culture by its many and varied uses. From a simple means of staying up to date with current events, to being entertained by great programs, to learning about our world and our universe. Television has become the great achievement of information sharing.
Then, came the internet. Beautiful, wonderful, porn filled internet. *chuckles* Billions of bytes of information shared near instantly with nearly as many people. Sharing our ideas, our dreams, our creations.
So, it's great when the two can combine in such a way as to draw forth some amazing talent. Primarily in the form of the fanfic (Fan Fiction) writer.
One in particular has achieved something that very few prominent authors can. Making me, of all people, get choked up over a story. It happens, sometimes, with books that manage to make a true and deep emotional connection with me. But this is particularly important because the fanfiction takes two completely different universes; Firefly and Doctor Who, then mashes them together in a way that is so well written as to seem completely plausible.
I don't know the author's real name, but she goes by FrostFyre7 on fanfiction.net. She is the author of the crossover mentioned above, called 'A Life Less Extraordinary'. It features the crew of Serenity (post movie), and the Doctor from Englands Dr. Who in a situation that while it would never happen on the small screen, still feels as if it would happen in their respective universes.
Featuring all of those beloved characters, including the 10th Doctor played by David Tenant, she has managed to weave a tale that captures the imagination, stirs the soul, and brings more than a few tears to the eyes. Definitely worth a read for anyone who loves Firefly and/or Doctor Who. So definitely give it a look over (hefty reading at 30 chapters so far).

Even if you've never seen either show, definitely worth taking the time to read. You might just find yourself wanting to watch the shows afterwards.

| » December is nice |
So, this month is starting off... strange.
I got a new laptop of sorts, fifth hand if you will. A friend of my father's got it from a friend of theirs, who either worked for the company that originally owned it, or simply came across it. Never the less, after some work to get into WindowsXP rather than just staring at the login screen, I finally managed to crack it open and get inside the good stuff.
Then, the monitor. A couple days ago, I managed to get my dad's old 19" CRT working again. It's big, it's heavy, it's a little burned in, but otherwise it is awesomesauce. Had a bit of a scare the other day when I forgot to change the power settings on the laptop, which cause the monitor to shut off at night while I was sleeping. Thus, I spent the next day trying to figure out a way to get it to work again.
And my room. Oh my gods! Today especially, I was one busy bitch. ::chuckles:: At one point, I was playing four or five characters at once. Not my usual, one on one book long posts, but decent enough to keep things fun and exciting. I honestly can't wait to see what the post counts look like for today.
What was also really great, was that it was a completely open RP. If someone came into the room, we just told them to grab a character and jump in. The storyline is called 'Weeping Siren', based off of old recollections of the original Red Dragon Inn on NetCentral. A lot of us used to play there, so we remember what it was like. The tales we tell each other, the stories we remember fondly, the atmosphere of being able to come in and find rp no matter what. That's what happened today. And everyone had a blast.
All in all, this month is turning out pretty decent, which I like. ::g::
